Jennings & Keller is *Laurie Jennings Oudin and Dana Keller*, an acoustic duo based out of Miami, Florida. They bring a wealth of experience to their collaboration, from the Broadway musicals of New York to the honky tonks of West Texas.
Their music is called "Fusion Folk Americana' - a blend of many different elements that comes from their vast and wide-ranging musical backgrounds. With the release of their debut CD, 'Susan's House', Jennings & Keller are quickly gaining recognition throughout the country. Laurie Jennings Oudin is well-known as the former proprietress of The Main Street Cafe, which was viewed across the country as the premier acoustic music venue in Florida. A former Shakespearean actress, Laurie has been a singer and songwriter for many years. Since the cafe's close in June 2006, she has been devoting her time to her musical career with Dana.
Dana Keller is a veteran pedal steel, dobro, and guitar player who has spent years performing on stage or in the studio with such luminaries as Vince Gill, Ricky Skaggs, Stevie Wonder, Larry Graham, Marvin Gaye, Dave Mason, Johnny Rodriguez and The Allen Brothers, to name a few. James Lee Stanley & John Batdorf Return to HillyBean's
With a special show "All Wood And Stones"
Saturday July 18th at 7pm
Tickets are $12 in advance $15 at the door
Fans of Crosby Stills & Nash, Buffalo Springfield, Rubber Soul, the Eagles, or classic Beach Boys harmonies are in for a real treat.
Can you imagine what the Rolling Stones songs would have sounded like if Mick Jagger and Keith Richards were California boys with acoustic guitars? Would Satisfaction, Ruby Tuesday, or Last Time have been as powerful if they had been played on acoustic guitars and filled with vocal harmonies?
Curious?
So were James Lee Stanley and John Batdorf, purveyors of acoustic rock music for decades. They took 11 Rolling Stones classics and turned them into something totally unheard of. You don't have to live in California or play acoustic guitar to be enchanted by "All Wood and Stones" ... an amazing collection of Rolling Stones tunes played on acoustic guitars and brimming with joyous vocal harmonies.
They'll be performing those and more for thier Hillybeans Show. Amazing music performed by amazing musicians.

It is only a long lived singer-songwriter career that lets JAMES LEE STANLEY unite the unpredictable creative turns and the eclectic elements that make up his world. His remarkable ability as a vocalist and composer allow him to create truly great songs, each accompanied by his amazing guitar orchestrations. When you couple with his outragously hilarious repartee, you get one of the most entertaining concerts on the circuit. He has been hailed as one of the few all time greats and undisputed geniuses among singer-songwriters. He has toured consistently since he returned from the USAF (as a Chinese linguist) and has performed up to three hundred dates a year since then with such diverse acts as BONNIE RAITT, ROBIN WILLIAMS, NICOLETTE LARSON and even BILL COSBY. STEVEN WRIGHT chose James Lee as his opening act for three years in a row; a testament to his professionalism and talent.

John Batdorf has survived many careers in one lifetime. Starting with the 70's as a recording artist with Batdorf and Rodney and Silver. I made records and toured this country and Canada for most of the 70s. We headlined many shows, but as an opening act we got to play with a lot of great groups like America, Seals and Crofts, Dan Fogelberg, Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, Fleetwood Mac, The Doobie Brothers, Bread, The Youngbloods, Hall and Oats, Cheech and Chong, England Dan and John Ford Coley, Pure Prairie League, Harry Chapin, John Prine, Dave Mason, Kris Kristofferson just to name a few! A great time was had by all.
Now John & James have recorded a new CD "All Wood And Stones" A highly original take on early Rolling Stones songs, done acoustically with tight harmonies. Mama Hillybeans is glad to have them both back, this time together! Don't miss this great show! www.jamesleestanley.com

Audrey Auld plays HillyBean's
Friday July 24th at 7pm
Tickets are $8 in advance $10 at the door
Devils are not the only thing to come from Tasmania. Singer-songwriter Audrey Auld's heart is in Country, Folk and Americana music with a presence as big as The Outback. Her songs are the wry and poignant observations of a Tassie girl living in California and Nashville for the past five years. Audrey calls it "Music with the dirt left on." Auld is a memorable and uplifting entertainer. She's a spontaneous comedienne and a writer of humorous, provocative and soulful songs. A touring songwriter, Audrey won the 2006 MerleFest Song Contest and performed her winning song "Losing Faith" with Rich Brotherton (Robert Earl Keen) on guitar to a thrilled MerleFest crowd.
(Dead Ringer Band, Kasey Chambers), laid a foundation for Auld's next seven releases including The Fallen in 2000 which was nominated for Best Country Album in Australia. Losing Faith (2003) is a dark haunting release that put Audrey on the map in the US with Americana radio. She began touring the states opening shows for Todd Snider, Fred Eaglesmith and Kevin Welch among others. Texas, which came out in 2005, was also a Best Country Album nominee in Auld's homeland. It was recorded in Texas with Gabe Rhodes, a gifted musician, producer and son of legendary artist Kimmie Rhodes.
It was in Northern California that Auld was introduced to guitarist extraordinaire Nina Gerber (Eliza Gilkyson, Kate Wolfe, and Karla Bonoff amongst many others). The two musically-fast friends hit it off immediately, and their second show together was recorded and released in 2006. In the House is a stunning live release.
Lost Men & Angry Girls went to Number One on the Freeform American chart in 2007. This chart is compiled from the worldwide play lists of DJ's who play music for love, not money. The album showcases Auld's best writing to date and is proof of the heart and mind connection of her music and her huge capacity for compassion and humor in writing songs that everyone can relate to.
2009 finds Audrey living in East Nashville with her husband, dogs and chickens, writing songs and touring . . . the best is yet to come!

Laurence Juber will be RETURNING to HillyBean's
Saturday July 25th. at 7pm

Tickets will be $15 .
As a young working musician in London, England in the 1970s, Laurence Juber got an extraordinary, life-changing break when Paul McCartney picked him to become Wings' lead guitarist. Juber spent three years recording and touring with the band. During that time he won a Best Rock Instrumental GRAMMY for the track "Rockestra" from the Wings album Back To The Egg. After Wings disbanded in 1981, Juber embarked on a career as a solo artist, composer and arranger, and soon developed a reputation as a world-class guitar virtuoso, being voted #1 by Fingerstyle Guitar magazine. He has released 13 critically acclaimed solo albums, including "LJ Plays the Beatles", "Guitarist" and "One Wing".

"He gloriously articulates the melodies and never succumbs to show-off playing. But the notes spin out of the songs with such finesse and musical agility, it's hard to believe he has only 10 fingers and six strings. Juber has made a rare acoustic guitar record with bark and bite. His playing is just short of sleight of hand and, like all magicians, he makes it seem effortless." ----San Francisco Chronicle. http://www.laurencejuber.com

Crosby Tyler will be performing Saturday August 8th, at 7pm
Tickets are $10.
Crosby Tyler has been touring relentlessly opening for Peter Case and then filling in for him in February 2009 when he fell ill..
"Performing solo, the quality of his writing, his way with a tune and his engaging presence made for a fine night. Tyler was able to produce a set of songs that tapped into American folk sources with touches of humor and, at times and in a more serious vein looked at the underbelly of American society."
Paul Kerr Americana UK
"A guitar and harmonica rack aside, the red nose is Tyler's only prop in a show that reveals the soft-hatted, careworn voiced Los Angeleno to be as much theatre director as troubadour, marshalling a rich cast of characters, including the clowns, drunkards and crazies of the Tex-Mex flavored Payasos Borrachos Y Locos, war veterans, fugitives, refugees, hobos, bozos and sundry bluesmen, and making them all come alive." Stephanie Bettman has the goods. A triple threat with her diverse songwriting, soulful vocals, and dynamite fiddling - all featured on her debut CD "GET CLOSE TO ME". She and her band are the grand prize winners of the 2008 Southern California Live Acoustic Music Band Competition, proclaiming them the "best live acoustic band in Southern California".in 2007 they were among the winners in the Topanga Banjo / Fiddle contest, and at the 2007 Sedona Bluegrass Festival, buzz on the street labeled her "the next Alison Krauss". Then there are those who say she reminds them of Joan Baez or Judy Collins. Stephanie is unique - with influences ranging from opera to funk to the golden era of country. Her music is infectious and joyful, and when her band chimes in with those soaring harmonies, audiences have been heard to gasp "wow". This project is the culmination of Stephanie's lifelong love affair with the performing arts. Not only has she been playing music since childhood, she's worked as an actress and producer in films, theater and commercials, written screenplays, and performed as a trapeze and circeau artist. Her talents have taken her from The Capistrano Valley Symphony to the National Theater Of Korea to the LA circus, and beyond.

He has played mandolin and fiddle since childhood, and now in this collaboration he brings his guitar chops as well as his songwriting talent to the table. They are joined by Brian Netzley on bass and harmonies. Brian is a long time studio and live musician from Southern California and one of the best bass players around. SLIGO RAGS at HillyBean's
Saturday August 15th at 7pm
Tickets are $15
Named one of the top ten acoustic bands in LA and two-time winners of the Orange County Music Award for Best Folk Band, this dynamic ensemble presents Celtic Folk with a decidedly bluegrass attitude. Sligo Rags is taking the local and not-so-local Celtic music scene by storm with a unique blend of eclectic musical influences. Their debut studio recording, " The Night Before the Morning After", currently garnering international airplay, was called "the best I've heard from a stateside band" by Celtic Beat Magazine. Says the San Diego Troubadour, "This band can light up an atmosphere as dim as the Guinness stout you just ordered at the bar... Sligo Rags really knows their Celtic music." Their sophomore effort, "The Whiskey Never Lies," was named one of the top 10 of 2007 by Folkworks, and Dan Miller of Flatpicking Guitar Magazine says "These guys have it all--great vocals, lots of energy, captivating songs, well executed arrangements, and tasteful solos." Don't be surprised if elements of country, gypsy jazz and swing manage to sneak their way into the act as well. Bob Stane, the legendary founder of The Icehouse and The Coffee Gallery Backstage says of Sligo Rags, "this is a money back, no questions asked if you are not thrilled act. Bring friends. Dynamic, up tempo, multi-talented. A fusion that just crackles." http://www.sligorags.com/

Golden Bough
Music from the Seven Celtic Nations comes to HillyBean's
Friday August 21st at 7pm
Tickets are $12 advance $15 at door
"There is a love of this music by the performers that is obvious. Of note, especially, are the vocal pieces "as well as Margie's harp playing, which simply sparkles. All in all, a great example of how to do something the right way when many are just doing it, period." Wind & Wire Magazine
Specializing in the traditional music from the seven Celtic Nations, Golden Bough has become a popular and in demand group on both sides of the Atlantic. Founded in 1980 this trio of modern day minstrels has since traveled great distances, crossed numerous borders and shared the stage with a variety of ethnic musicians, to bring their music to enthusiastic folk fans the world over.
During the past 30 years Golden Bough has recorded nearly 30 albums. Their latest CD, "Celtic Love Songs" will be available at The Games, along with their other recordings. Recently Golden Bough's music was featured in the PBS documentary "Visions of Scotland".
Golden Bough has spent nearly thirty years researching and performing not only the better known music of Ireland & Scotland, but also the music of Wales, Cornwall, The Isle of Man, French Brittany and Galicia (in Spain). Rooted in the music of these Celtic nations, they have expanded upon these ethnic styles to create a sound that is unique in traditional music. This music has a wide and diverse variety of emotions and rhythms; from haunting ballads, mythological tales and beautiful airs, to lively sing-alongs and toe-tapping jigs and reels.
In the recording studio, as well as on stage, Golden Bough captures the essence and joy of traditional music. Their numerous recordings are distributed worldwide, demonstrating Golden Bough's far reaching popularity and the fact that they continue to be a driving force on the Celtic music scene. James Hurley will be returning Saturday August 22nd, 2009 at 7pm
Tickets are $8 advance & $10 at the door.
minor7th magazine
James owns a rare combination of talents - pop songwriting that is intelligent in its eloquence of lyrics and chordal changes, oh-so-silky vocals and harmonies, an unpretentious jazz-like virtuosity on acoustic guitar, and the guts to lay those talents bare with a very austere production. Like Stephen Bishop's, Hurley's style is up-beat and catchy, but very genuine. Fans of Brian Wilson's "SMiLE" will love the ethereal vocal coda at the end of "In My Dreams." "Whisper" is reminiscent of Kenny Rankin's Brasilian balladry. There's even a Sgt. Pepperish and playful use of tuba on "London Bridge," disclosing a strong Beatles influence that seems ubiquitous to his generation of songwriters.

Jill Knight will be performing Friday August 28th, 2009 at 7pm
Tickets are $12 advance & $15 at the door.
Jill Knight just might be the most conspicously talented singer-songwriter-arranger- producer you haven't heard of ...yet. With a voice that crests and tumbles like a waterfall and a fearless honesty burning through the core of her songs, Knight is as elemental as the wind. Many musicians can acheive a response from their audiences with their technique, style or stage presence. Few though are able to personify their music with their own personality. Those that can create an emotional bond with their listeners. Jill Knight is that kind of musician. Her 1999 release "Future Perfect", has songs featured in the motion picture, "Stranger than Fiction", and also on the Oxygen Network. Jill has shared stages with Shawn Colvin, Richard Thompson, David Wilcox, Los Lobos, Toni Childs, Phoebe Snow and many other such talented artists.
